This blog is a little late after 'MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK' but thats ok, coz we should be thinking about these issues every week, right?!
Mental health is more common amongst us than we think, we have just got really good at hiding it, especially behind social media! When we arn't feeling our best self, we tend to shut it out, ignore it & hope it goes away, because we sometimes don't understand these feelings so how can we be expected to talk about the shit we can't explain? But thats ok too! There are other ways you can take care of your self! I've put together a self-care checklist - A go-to list you can keep, a reminder of things you can do to brighten up your mind, body, & soul! Your new bible!
1. CLEAN & DECLUTTER
HINCH YOURSELF HAPPY! A tidy space is a tidy mind! YOU ARE affected by your surroundings. Open your curtains, clean your windows, fold your clothes away, put on your fave playlist whilst you work. Give yourself a fresh start with a fresh space, light your fave fucking Yankee candle & become the bad ass boss you are destined to be babe!
2. PAMPER, NETFLIX & CHILL
You wouldn't let your phone batt run low, so why would you do that to yourself? Recharge your batteries! Have a bubble bath, pamper yourself for an hour at least, paint your toes, do a face mask! There is no problem that doughnuts can't fix babe, so DO-NUT KILL YOUR VIBE, forget the diet just once & treat yourself to those Krispy Kreme's, get your fave loungewear on & watch your fave movies!
In the words of Elle Woods "Exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy, happy people just don't shoot their husbands"! Its true, the ultimate stress buster is a work out! Ok so, if you're like me.. & cannot stand the gym, try Yoga, you can do this at home as a beginner & work up to your local classes. You don't have to be great to start with, but you have to start to be great! I promise you now, those stretches & poses are not only good for your body babe, they are good for the mind! So have a lil go, & let those little e's do their thing!
4. PLAY WITH YOUR PET
It's no secret that animals give you the greatest joy! We don't nearly give them enough credit & we deffo don't deserve them! If you haven't got a pet for whatever reason, first of all, what you doing hun? Secondly, borrow one!
5. ARRANGE A COFFEE/BRUNCH DATE
It's what friends and fam are for! Spend some QT with your fave humans & those who love you the most! Chat deeply, connect properly, share your problems, a problem shared is a problem halved!
6. TREAT YO SELF
The best therapy! Don't feel guilty having a little splurge girl, you deserve it! If you ain't got the cash flow babe, sell your old shit on Ebay, set up a Depop account, declutter, get some money back! Its win win!
7. THE GREAT OUTDOORS
They don't call it great for nothing! Get some fresh air & breathe it all in babe. Take yourself for a walk in your fave park, or by the water somewhere, or better still drive out to the beach!
8.SOCIAL MEDIA CLEANSE
Spend some time with your OWN thoughts & feelings. Go ghost from social media & give yourself a break, It works wonders! You don't have to be missing out, meet up with friends instead, have an actual conversation. Guaranteed you'll start doing this more often!
9. MUSIC IS THE FOOD OF THE SOUL
Music for me, speaks what cannot be expressed, it soothes the mind, heals the heart, & feeds the soul!
10. MAKE PLANS
Think about all the things you would like to do, maybe stuff you have never done before, & start making plans in advance! Its a proven fact that we all feel so much better when we have something to look forward to!
